BUYER GUIDE
Laser-Cut Part RFQ Checklist: What to Send for a Clear Quote
Published by Beizhou Metal · General buyer guide
A useful laser-cutting inquiry gives each supplier the same part definition, material, quantity, acceptance criteria and delivery scope. This general buyer guide does not confirm a particular material, feature, tolerance or schedule is available from Beizhou or a supplier.
Identify the part and controlling revision
Include the part number, drawing revision, units and date or status of the files. If you provide both a drawing and a 3D model, state which document controls when dimensions or geometry differ. Ask the supplier which file formats it can review; a model or profile file can help describe geometry, but does not replace controlled acceptance requirements.
Specify the material as purchased
State the material grade or specification, condition where relevant, thickness, and required surface or coating. If alternatives may be considered, identify who approves a substitution and what material evidence is required. Do not assume a generic label such as stainless steel or aluminum fully defines the material.
Give quantities and order context
State the current order quantity and any repeat or volume tiers you want quoted. Separate prototype, sample and production quantities when they have different acceptance or packaging requirements. These are planning inputs, not an assumed supplier capacity or lead time.
Mark functional features and cut-edge requirements
Identify holes, slots, tabs, locating features, mating edges and surfaces that affect assembly. State which dimensions and tolerances are functionally important and how critical features will be checked. Describe deburring, edge-break, cleanliness or protection requirements when they affect handling, fit, coating or later operations.
Define observable acceptance
Laser cutting is a thermal process. Technical references describe cut characteristics such as kerf, edge roughness, edge squareness, heat-affected zones and dross. Their effect varies with the material and process setup; a generic article cannot establish your acceptance limit. Describe the edge condition or inspection evidence that matters and ask the selected supplier to confirm a feasible method.
Separate cutting from downstream operations
Say whether the request is for cut parts only or includes deburring, tapping, countersinking, bending, joining, finishing or marking. For a cut blank that may later be bent, provide the formed drawing or assembly context and request a separate downstream review. A flat profile alone does not establish feasibility of the finished formed part.
Define inspection and commercial scope
List the dimensions or conditions to inspect, the acceptance method and any shipment records required. Ask each bidder to identify setup charges, quantity breaks, included finishing and inspection, exclusions, quote validity, packaging, destination, freight scope and timing assumptions. Compare quotations only after scope and acceptance requirements align.
Protect confidential files
Begin with a non-confidential outline when evaluating a supplier. Before sending sensitive drawings, agree who will receive them, why they are needed, how they will be transferred, and what confidentiality and retention arrangements apply. This website has no drawing-upload channel. Use the first email or WhatsApp contact only for a non-confidential project summary; do not attach sensitive drawings to the initial message or send them through WhatsApp. Ask sales first to confirm an appropriate confidential transfer channel and handling arrangements.
A practical buyer worksheet
On narrow screens, swipe horizontally to view all three columns.
| Quote input | State or confirm | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Part definition | Controlled revision, units, material and current quantity | Keeps each quotation tied to the same part and order. |
| Acceptance | Functional features, edge condition and inspection evidence | Makes quality expectations observable. |
| Process scope | Cut-only or requested deburring, bending, finishing or marking | Prevents comparing different deliverables. |
| Commercial scope | Quantity breaks, setup, packaging, destination and exclusions | Surfaces assumptions before comparing totals. |
This is a scope checklist, not a supplier capability or engineering approval. Discuss laser-cut parts, or contact us with a non-confidential outline.
