BUYER GUIDE
How to Source Custom CNC Machined Parts from China
Published by Beizhou Metal · General buyer guide
Sourcing custom CNC parts is a sequence of specification, supplier review, quotation, sample approval, and production controls. The right process depends on the part and the buyer’s acceptance requirements; a sourcing conversation is not a capability guarantee.
1. Define the part and its use
Prepare the current 3D model and controlled 2D drawing. Identify the material grade and condition, quantity by order and expected annual demand, critical dimensions, finish, inspection needs, packaging, destination, and any regulatory or end-use constraints. Mark which drawing revision is authoritative.
2. Ask for a project-specific review
Ask the proposed manufacturer to identify the production route, operations that may be subcontracted, assumptions, open questions, and any features that need design clarification. Keep material substitutions and drawing changes under written approval.
3. Compare complete quotations
Compare scope and exclusions, tooling or setup charges, unit-price quantity breaks, inspection evidence, packaging, shipping terms, payment milestones, and quote validity. A low unit price is not directly comparable if inspection, finishing, or packaging differs.
4. Agree on sample and acceptance
Before production, agree who approves the sample, which revision is used, what measurements or records are required, who owns any tooling, and how nonconforming parts are handled. Do not treat an unapproved sample as proof of ongoing process control.
5. Protect information and control changes
Share only files needed for the review, through an agreed channel. Identify authorized recipients, retention expectations, and deletion requests. Route engineering changes through revision control and written approval.
Beizhou’s coordination role
Beizhou coordinates sourcing and supplier review as a trading and supply-chain coordination business. The selected manufacturing partner, available process range, inspection route, and commercial terms must be confirmed for each project before commitment.
Identify the parties and their responsibilities
Before sharing a complete design or placing an order, identify the proposed contracting party, manufacturing partner and any recipient of drawings. Record who answers technical questions, approves changes, provides inspection records and handles a nonconformance. A coordinator and a manufacturing site have different roles; do not assume they are the same legal entity or that a brand owns the factory.
Use a requirement-to-evidence record
For each important requirement, record the evidence requested, who will provide it, the relevant part and revision, when it is due and whether it has been accepted. Keep an unanswered question open instead of marking it approved because a quote arrived. This is a procurement working record, not a prescribed audit standard or a supplier certification.
Decide when the project is ready to progress
Before sample work, resolve the drawing baseline, permitted deviations and sample acceptance question. Before recurring supply, review sample findings, remaining actions, approved changes and the required shipment records. State who can release the next stage. No fixed number of checks, sample pieces, deposit percentage or production lead time is implied by this workflow.
Keep source context separate from the project agreement
The linked procurement article is general background published in 2016, not a China-specific legal, tax or import procedure. Project responsibilities, commercial terms and any destination-specific obligations must be agreed for the actual order. Its inclusion does not mean NIST has evaluated Beizhou or a proposed manufacturing partner.
